The summer school offers an introduction to the field of experimental economics. It provides students with skills needed to design and run an experiment. The course is sponsored by royal Dutch science academy KNAW and Lingnan College, Sun Yat-sen University as part of the China Exchange program <https://www.knaw.nl/en/international/scientific-cooperation-with-china/china-exchange-programme>.
Target audience
Master’s and PhD students, and junior faculty in Economics and related social sciences.
Summer school overview
This summer school provides an in-depth analysis of some recent developments in the field of experimental economics, including the rapid growth of behavioral economics and the increased use of field experiments. Because experimental economics is a methodology often used to test economic theory, the course also covers theoretical issues (more specifically, game theory), when appropriate.
Topics include:
* experimental methodology
* behavioral economics (public goods, bargaining, other–regarding
preferences)
* industrial organization (auctions, double auction, market power)
* individual decision–making (expected utility, probability weighting)
* market design (social choice, mechanism design)
* analysis of experimental data
Students will develop an experiment on their preferred topic and run the experiment using the other students as participants.
The lectures will be given by Prof. dr. Arthur Schram (University of Amsterdam and European University Institute), dr. Sander Onderstal (University of Amsterdam), and dr. Xiaojian Zhao (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology).

Costs
The summer school is free of charge. The organization will provide free on-campus accommodation, lunches and coffee breaks during the summer school, and cover up to €750 of travel costs.
